He started playing drums little over a year ago, and because he lives in Florida, I never see him. I was lucky to have a free night so when he was up here with his mom, I went over the bridge for dinner, and then took him to get a milkshake. He’s incredibly intelligent for his age, and I can tell he has a drive to learn about and play music. I handed him a copy of Reign Supreme’s “Testing the Limits of Infinite” on cd. He was visibly stoked on it, and told me he would call me after he listened to it. I know Reign Supreme isn’t the Cro Mags or Black Flag, but we all have to start somewhere, right? I remember being his age and being introduced to Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Inside Out, Fugazi and lots more. Those bands changed my life and shaped me into the person I am today. I hope that Reign Supreme may be that band that could change my cousin’s life and get him into hardcore and metal and (maybe) straight edge. I would love to take him to shows and pass down my records and shirts to him.
I’m stoked.
